Why I am joining Prezent AI’s senior executive board: Empowering storytelling in the age of AI

In technology and customer success, effective communication is the difference between ideas that stall and ideas that create real transformation. 

Throughout my career, I have seen how strong storytelling aligns teams, builds customer trust, and drives business results. I have also seen how often talented professionals struggle to turn their thinking into clear, compelling narratives.

At every stage of my journey, one lesson has remained constant: communication turns potential into impact.

How my journey shaped my perspective on communication

I began my career in product management, focused on building solutions that addressed real customer needs. Early on, I realized that creating the right product was only part of the responsibility.

If you cannot clearly explain the value of what you are building, adoption slows, teams fall out of alignment, and customers do not fully understand the change you are driving.

It quickly became clear that strong communication was just as important as building the right product.

As I moved into broader leadership roles at ServiceNow, Salesforce, and Cisco, my responsibilities expanded. I was shaping strategy, guiding large teams, and engaging directly with customers and partners. In those roles, clarity became even more important.

Aligning engineering and sales around a new offering required a shared narrative. Presenting the strategy to executive stakeholders required precision. Helping customers understand long-term value requires consistency and trust. In each case, the quality of the story influenced the outcome.

Over time, my focus shifted more deeply into customer success and customer experience leadership, which eventually led me to Veeam. Across each transition, the pattern remained clear: stronger communication led to stronger results.

Looking back, my career progression was not only about moving from product leadership to customer leadership. It was about understanding how effective storytelling shapes performance at every level of an organization.

The communication challenge many teams face

Despite its importance, storytelling remains one of the most common challenges in business.

The biggest hurdle is often getting started.

Putting your thoughts on paper can be surprisingly difficult. You may understand the strategy, the data, and the desired outcome. Yet when faced with a blank slide or document, progress slows.

I have seen this across teams and industries.

Even accomplished writers struggle with this process. Many spend years completing a single book, refining every chapter. When they begin the next one, the pressure to meet or exceed expectations often leads to even more second-guessing and overthinking.

In business, a similar pattern appears. Leaders revise presentations multiple times before sharing them. Teams spend hours adjusting structure instead of strengthening the message. Overthinking takes over, and momentum fades.
